Stability crucial for Al Arabi according to Qatari striker
Al Arabi striker Ahmed Khalfan believes that his Al Arabi side has stabilized in what has been a tumultuous season for the Dream Team. The Qatari player spoke with QSL online to give his thoughts on the season to date.
Opening up the conversation, Khalfan stressed that his side was aiming for a strong showing from the remaining games of the QSL season. “We have a good chance to pull up the table and finish strongly in the league. All we have to do is focus on our game and I believe we can achieve some positive results. We have had good results recently against Al Khor and Al Wakrah and this will give us a real chance against Al Shahania in round 24.”
“Everyone is aware of the difficult situation of the Club. In my opinion Al Arabi needs stability on both technical and management levels. Plenty of changes in playing and coaching staff have affected the form of the side dramatically” admitted the striker when asked about Al Arabi’s season to date.
Al Arabi has had three coaches over the cause of the season, and Khalfan admitted it’s difficult to judge them all after a short period of time with the club. “All the coaches we had given their best for Al Arabi, now we are with Osvaldo Olivera and he has slowly began to improve the team, especially in light of the circumstances we have been in.”
“Al Arabi is more than capable of returning to the top of Qatari football again, making our fans happy is our number one goal” confirmed Khalfan when asked if the Dream Team can come back stronger after this difficult season in the league.
Arabi are currently in eighth place in the QSL standings, but still could get sucked into the relegation dog-fight if their form drops significantly. That said; Khalfan assured that won’t be happening for his side. “Right now, we are focusing on each game and for the three points we are playing for, our objective will always be to away from the relegation zone.”
“Stability is very crucial in football and I think Al Arabi needs stability more than any other club at the moment. We have witnessed many changes in the past few years from coaches to players” added the striker.
Looking forward to the season, Khalfan hoped for a strong finish to the league campaign before turning attentions to the Emir cup. “We have to end the league well, and then we can look at the Emir Cup, these games are different to the league and we have a chance to progress in this competition.
Ending the interview, the striker revealed that he still harbors dreams of representing the Qatar national team again. “It is always an honor to play for Al Anabi, god willing I will play again for my country.”
