Al Gharafa ready to face Al Jazira


QNB Stars League side Al Gharafa are set to meet the UAE’s Al Jazira in the first round of AFC Champions League on Monday. The match will kick off at 18:30 Doha time at the Mohammed bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Member of the Al Gharafa team, led by Deputy Football Head Saad Al Shammari, reached the UAE capital on Saturday. Turkish coach Bulent Uygun had given the players a day’s rest following their QNB Stars League Week 16 match against Al Duhail which they lost 1-5 on Thursday.

The Cheetahs will have a training session in Abu Dhabi prior to the game.

Al Gharafa, who qualified for the tournament proper by defeating Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor in play-off, will miss injured defender Almahdi Ali.

The squad includes Qasim Burhan, Yusuf Hassan, Abdulaziz Ali, Syed Haj, Tamim Muhaza, Asim Madbo, Robert Jose, Fahad Al Shammari, Yousef Muftah, Mehdi Taremi, Wesley Sneijder, Othman Al Yahri, Thamer Jamal, Ahmed Alaaeldin, Diego Amado, Abdulaziz Hatem and Ilys Ahmed.
