Al Rayyan midfielder Ahmed Abdel Maqsoud in an Exclusive Interview with QSL Online
Midfielder Ahmed Abdel Maqsoud, who joined Al Rayyan at the start of this season, is fast proving his worth for them. He put up an exceptional performance during their 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Al Sadd in last week’s ‘Qatar Clasico’.
Ahead of their Round 7 match against Qatar SC in the QNB Stars League at the Al Sadd Stadium on Friday, Abdel Maqsoud spoke to QSL Online about the preparations, match against Al Sadd and his ambitions with the team this season.
How do you see your match against Qatar SC?
It’s going to be a tough one for us as we had put in huge efforts for the ‘Qatar Clasico’.
What did the Clasico victory mean to you?
It tastes special for obvious reasons. Al Sadd are a formidable side and beating them enabled us to close the gap with leaders Al Duhail, from three points to just one.
Are you competing for the QNB Stars League title?
Al Sadd, Al Duhail and Al Rayyan had started as favourites for the title. The Clasico win has brightened our prospects.
Do you expect a big win over Qatar SC, similar to your 9-0 victory over them two seasons ago?
I believe such results come only once in history. Of course, a big side like Qatar SC didn’t deserve such a huge defeat.
Your performance against Al Sadd won a lot of praise…
I’m very happy with that. I always follow the instructions on the field. The entire team should be given credit.
How comfortable are you with Al Rayyan?
It’s like a feel-at-home atmosphere for me at the club right from day one. Initially, things were not smooth as I had missed the first three matches with an injury. I felt very bad. However, the good harmony among the players helped my return and I feel myself better after every game.
What’s Al Rayyan’s target this season?
Al Rayyan always compete for titles and this season is no different. Winning trophies makes our fans happy and we hope to make them more and more happier.
What do you like to tell Al Rayyan fans?
Fans played a good role in our victory over Al Sadd. They motivated us when we were down by an early goal.
