Iranian striker Mehdi to join Al Gharafa

Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi is to join Al Gharafa as they prepare for their QNB Stars League Week 12 match against Al Ahli on 12th January.

Mehdi, who had an outstanding career with defending Iranian league champions Persepolis since 2014, is expected to strengthen Al Gharafa’s attack as they resume their league campaign under new coach Bulent Uygun.

Hailing from the city of Bushehr, the 25-year-old tall player started his senior career with home side Shahin Bushehr. He was later brought to Persepolis by Iranian legend Ali Daei.

Mehdi has represented the Iran national team 22 times, scoring 10 goals.

Meanwhile, Al Gharafa defeated Qatar SC 2-1 in a friendly played at home on Sunday. Portuguese midfielder Diogo Amado scored for Al Gharafa, who were helped by an own goal by Qatar SC when one of their defenders deflected the ball in off a cross by Muad Hassan.

Brazilian Bruno Gallo scored Qatar SC’s goal.

Both coaches, Bulent of Al Gharafa and Abdullah Mubarak of Qatar SC were keen to make good use of the match ahead of their QNB Stars League Week 12 fixtures against Al Ahli and Al Duhail respectively.
