Pre-Match Press Conference — Qatar SC

Qatar SC coach Gabriel Calderon spoke to the media ahead of their QNB Stars League Round 6 match against Al Sailiya.

“It was unfortunate to have lost to Al Ahli. We conceded two silly goals from corner kicks. We need to improve our defence. Individual mistakes have been our big bane and we must put an end to them. We’ve conceded 11 goals and scored only five. But otherwise, statistics from our last five matches aren’t that bad, I mean possession-wise. We were good even in the game against Al Duhail. We must continue our good work.

“No coach likes to lose. Against Al Sailiya, I’m making my wards better understand my tactics in an effective way. Our scoring rate isn’t enough and attack lacks bite. We must be strengthening both attack and defence. We need more depth in the squad to win matches and it’s up to the team management to take a call.

“I’m trying to give more chances to youngsters. When I was coaching Real Betis in Spain, I had promoted an Under-17 player who went on to join Real Madrid. Grooming youngsters is the best way to bolster the squad and helps in the long run,” said Calderon.
