Qatari clubs continue AFC Champions League campaign
QNB Stars League clubs Al Gharafa, Al Duhail, Al Sadd and Al Rayyan continue their AFC Champions League campaign with the fourth-round fixtures on Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday, Al Rayyan will host Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in Group D at the Al Sadd Stadium (18:15), while Al Duhail will play against Uzbek side Lokomotiv in Tashkent in Group B (15:00).
On Tuesday, Al Sadd will play host to Uzbekistan’s Nasaf in Group C (18:15), whereas Al Gharafa will play against Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli in Jeddah in Group A (20:15).
All four teams are looking forward towards achieving positive results. Kick-offs are given in Doha time.
Al Duhail look the favourites to top Group B as they have an all-win record so far. They had beaten Uzbekistan’s Lokomotiv 3-2 when they met last week and will be keen to extend their winning streak.
Lokomotiv are third in the group, behind Iran’s Zob Ahan.
Lokomotiv will have the advantage of playing at home this time.
Al Duhail were crowned the QNB Stars League champions following their 5-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat in Week 20 last Friday.
Al Gharafa are seeking their second victory in the group stage when they take on Al Ahli, who are topping Group A with seven points. Al Gharafa are second on goal difference ahead of the UAE’s Al Jazira as both are on four points. Al Gharafa have a goal difference of +2.
One more victory will enhance the Qatari side’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stage.
The teams had played out a 1-1 draw in Doha last week. Al Gharafa will be keen to return with a positive result ahead of their last two games against Al Jazira and Iran’s Tractorsazi Tabresi.
Al Gharafa will also look to build on their good form in the QNB Stars League, where they are fourth.
Al Sadd will look to be back on the winning path in Group C as they had lost to Uzbek side Nasaf last week after winning their first two games.
Al Sadd and Iranian champions Persepolis both have six points, but the latter are topping the group on better goal difference (+3 as against Al Sadd’s +2).
The Wolves, who lost out to Al Duhail in the QNB Stars League title race, have home advantage this time. Portuguese Jesualdo Ferreira and his wards will be keen to make amends in the Asian competition.
Al Rayyan are seeking their first win in the group stage when they take on Al Hilal. The Lions had drawn their first three matches in Group D.
Al Rayyan are second in the group with three points by virtue of having scored more number of goals than Al Ain as both sides are tied on goal difference too.
Iran’s Esteghlal are on top of the group with five points.
However, Al Rayyan’s task will be difficult as Al Hilal have no other option than winning to progress to the next round.
