Qatari clubs look to keep achieving positive results
Qatari clubs Al Gharafa, Al Duhail, Al Sadd and Al Rayyan are going strong with their preparations for their AFC Champions League third-round fixtures, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday, Al Gharafa will host Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli in Group A (18:10). Al Sadd will be away at Uzbekistan’s Nasaf the same day in Group C (16:30).
On Tuesday, Al Duhail will play host to Uzbekistan’s Lokomotiv in Group B (18:00), while Al Rayyan will have a tough encounter in Saudi Arabia against Al Hilal in Group D (20:15).
All four teams are looking forward to keep achieving positive results in order to increase their chances of reaching the Round of 16.
In Group A, Al Gharafa face a tough task against Al Ahli. The Cheetahs are seeking their second victory, having defeated Tractorsazi Tabriz from Iran 3-0.
Al Ahli are leading Group A with six points from two wins, while Al Gharafa are second with three points.
Al Gharafa will go into the match seeking to build on their big win over Al Rayyan in the QNB Stars League Week 19 that took them to the top four in standings. Bulent Uygun’s side will also look to capitalise on home advantage.
Al Duhail will be defending their top spot in Group B when they play Lokomotiv. The Red Knights had beaten Iran’s Zob Ahan at home and Al Wahda from the UAE away.
Lokomotiv are second in the group with three points after defeating Al Wahda in the first round then losing to Zob Ahan in the next. Al Duhail will definitely be looking forward to completing a hat-trick of wins.
Al Duhail’s morale is high as they took a big step forward in pursuit of the QNB Stars League title with their victory over close contenders Al Sadd in Week 19 last week.
Al Sadd will also be keen to score their third win when they take on Nasaf away. The Wolves had beaten the UAE’s Al Wasl and Iran’s Persepolis, while Nasaf are in third position with three points.
Al Sadd must be looking to put behind the disappointment of their loss to Al Duhail in the QNB Stars League and concentrate on the AFC Champions League.
Al Sadd will miss Spanish superstar Xavi Hernandez due to an injury he suffered during the Al Duhail game. Al Sadd have depth in squad, so his absence should not be much of an issue.
Al Rayyan will be searching for their first win in Group D when they are up against Al Ahli. The Lions have not won and lost both their games, against Iran’s Esteghlal and the UAE’s Al Ain.
Al Rayyan are second in the group with two points, while Al Hilal are at the bottom of the table with only one point.
The match is expected to witness lots of excitement in view of both sides’ desire for their first victory. Al Rayyan should be looking to forget their 1-6 defeat to Al Gharafa in Week 19 of the QNB Stars League.
The Lions will be hungry for a win to compensate for such a big defeat.
