QNB Stars League — Week 13 Stars
The QNB Stars League Week 13 action saw many outstanding individual performances that impacted the teams’ results and subsequently their standings. QSL Online highlights one from each of the six matches.
Jugurtha Hamroun (Al Sadd)
Jugurtha Hamroun lived up to expectations when it mattered the most as he contributed a brace to Al Sadd’s 6-0 victory over Al Sailiya on Saturday. The Algerian attacking midfielder scored in the 32nd and 37th minutes for The Wolves, who kept the second position in the table with the big victory on better goal difference than Al Rayyan, who are also on 31 points.
Mohsin Al Yezeedi (Al Ahli)
Striker Mohsin Al Yezeedi saved Al Ahli’s blushes with a last-gasp goal that earned them a fighting 2-2 draw against Al Khor in the opening match of QNB Stars League Week 13 action on Thursday. He found the mark with a left-footed drive that went past goalkeeper Baba Djibril in stoppage time. Al Ahli thus stayed seventh in the standings with 15 points. Al Yezeedi had almost scored as early as the seventh minute, but was thwarted by Djibril.
Karim Boudiaf (Al Duhail)
Karim Boudiaf found the only goal in leaders Al Duhail’s victory over Al Arabi in the QNB Stars League’s Week 13 marquee clash on Friday. The tall defensive midfielder was on hand to head in a corner kick taken by Murad Naji that gave the rival goalkeeper and defenders no chance. Boudiaf became the hero for The Red Knights on a day when captain Youssef Msakni, spearhead Youssef El Arabi and playmaker Nam Tae-Hee failed to get on the scoresheet.
Mohsine Moutaouali (Al Rayyan)
Attacking midfielder Mohsine Moutaouali played a crucial role as Al Rayyan survived a late fightback by Al Kharaitiyat to register a 4-2 victory on Saturday. The Moroccan had a low-key role in the league’s first phase, but he is more than making up for it in the second. He scored a goal and set the stage for Mousa Haroun to find the mark. Moutaouali had got himself on the scoresheet in their victory over Al Khor in the previous week as well.
Othman Al Yahiri (Al Gharafa)
Othman Al Yahiri has been a consistent performer for Al Gharafa this season even though he was not a regular among goals. However, he stole The Cheetahs’ show against Umm Salal with one goal and an assist as they won the match by a 4-2 margin on Saturday. Othman scored their second goal in first-half injury time after he did the spadework with a low cross from the right for Ahmed Alaaeldin to score their opener.
Patrick Fabiano (Qatar SC)
Patrick Fabiano came to Qatar SC’s rescue by netting their all-important goal against Al Markhiya on Friday. The Brazilian striker thus made his debut in the QNB Stars League memorable. His strike, that came as early as the fifth minute after evading the challenge from defenders Saleh Badr and captain Bilal Mohammed, gave The Kings an advantage that they managed to hold on to despite having less possession.
