QNB Stars League Match Report — Al Sadd 2 Al Ahli 1

Al Sadd produced a clinical display to beat hosts Al Ahli 2-1 in their Round 7 clash of the QNB Stars League on Thursday.

Algerian Baghdad Bounedjah struck as early as the seventh minute for Al Sadd, who doubled their lead through fellow-striker Hassan Al Haydous in the 18th. Captain Meshaal Abdullah reduced the deficit for Al Ahli in the 90th minute with a well-taken left-footed drive.

After some stout defending in the first six minutes, Al Ahli conceded two goals in the next 12 minutes.

Al Haydous, running in from the midfield, spotted Baghdad on the left flank. Al Haydous clipped the ball towards the Algerian who curled it past Al Ahli goalkeeper Yazan Naim with a left-footed drive that hit the left side of the net.

Al Haydous then found the net from the edge of the box as Under-23 goalkeeper Naim failed to stop the ball.

An error by an Al Ahli defender saw a long lob land neatly at Al Haydous’ feet. The Qatar international forward quickly drilled in a low ball past goalkeeper Naim. Barcelona legend and captain Xavi Hernandez, who was rested for the game, warmly applauded the effort.

Six minutes into the second half, Al Ahli captain Meshaal Abdullah charged into the Al Sadd box, but misfired with only goalkeeper Saad Al Dossari to beat. Tireless Abdullah, however, was not to be denied as he scored late with a first-time volley into the net from close.
