QNB Stars League Round 5 Match Report - Al Ahli 3 Qatar SC 0
Captain Meshaal Abdulla struck a brace to help Al Ahli beat Qatar SC 3-0 and notch their first win of the season after five rounds in the QNB Stars League.
Meshaal played a pivotal role for Al Ahli by scoring in the 13th and 62nd minutes at the Al Duhail Stadium on Saturday night. Yasin Chikaoui found their other goal in the 45th. Al Ahli took their tally to four points, while Qatar SC thus suffered their fourth loss of the season.
Al Ahli, coming off a 1-6 loss to Al Duhail, opened the scoring through their ever-reliable striker Meshaal, who headed home off an indirect corner kick. It was the first goal of Meshaal, often the cornerstone of some of Al Ahli’s great performances, in the new season.
At the half-hour mark, Qatar SC’s Michael Babatunde fired a bullet from 25 yards, but his powerful shot narrowly missed the Al Ahli goalpost even as goalkeeper Naim Hassan was well beaten.
Seven minutes from the first-half whistle, Qatar SC’s Mahmoud Yazair failed to complete a neat move from close range when he mistimed his jump inside the Al Ahli box.
Moments later, Yazair once again failed to connect a high header, missing the flight of the ball just a few feet from Al Ahli’s goalmouth.
Midfielder Chikaoui doubled Al Ahli’s lead in first-half injury time when he forced Qatar SC goalkeeper Rajab Hamza to charge out on a loose ball and calmly slotted it home.
Meshaal then found the mark again following a neat 1-2 with team-mate Fareed Ibrahim.
Next up for Al Ahli and Qatar SC will be Al Arabi and Al Sailiya respectively.
