QNB Stars League Week 10 — Al Khor 2 Al Sadd 3

Jugurtha Hamroun’s dramatic 87th-minute penalty sealed a 3-2 victory for Al Sadd at the Khalifa International Stadium against a resilient Al Khor in Week 10 of the QNB Stars League on Friday.

Xavi Hernandez had put Al Sadd in front with goals in the 15th and 55th minutes, while Al Khor’s Madson and Soroush Hossein scored in the 59th and 70th respectively.

The game was open from the offset and the advantage was taken by a surging Al Sadd. Some intricate interplay down the right ended with Hamroun pulling the ball back to captain Xavi, who was on hand to sweep home.

The Wolves, who raised their points tally to 24, could have doubled their advantage not long after following Xavi’s expert lofted through ball, but Hassan Al Haydous saw his attempted lob drift just wide.

Ten minutes into the second half and it was the captain again who showed his expertise. Xavi stepped up to hit a 20-yard free-kick up and over the wall to leave the goalkeeper with no chance.

From that moment on, Al Khor really came into life for the first time and immediately pulled one back through Soroush. The Iranian midfielder was able to latch on to a defensive scramble and slot home.

At this point, it was one-way traffic and The Knights got their equaliser when Naif Al Buraiki rose brilliantly to head home a Soroush corner.

With Al Khor pushing for a winner, having forced multiple saves from young goalkeeper Meshaal Barshim, The Wolves hit back when they won a late penalty. Boualem Khoukhi was felled in the area, allowing Hamroun to step up to clinch the game and get Al Sadd back in contention at the top end of the league.

Al Sadd next play Al Kharaitiyat and it will be Al Khor vs Al Arabi.
