QNB Stars League Week 15 — Al Arabi 0 Umm Salal 0

Ten-man Al Arabi secured a very hard-fought point in a 0-0 home draw against Umm Salal in Week 15 of the QNB Stars League on Friday.

While already up against tough opposition, Al Arabi’s task was made harder in the 61st minute as Yemeni defender Mudhir Abdrabo received a straight red card for a challenge on Yannick Sagbo.

With the teams locked in a tight battle throughout the first half, the only clear opening came from a smart move by Al Arabi. Some intricate passing finished with a looping pass over the defence that Diego Jardel expertly volleyed, but the keeper saved well.

Into the second half and Al Arabi goalkeeper Masoud Zarayi was on top form to prevent Umm Salal from going ahead on a couple of occasions. Firstly, Mahmoud Mawas plucked the ball out of the air and shot, only to see his effort being parried wide. Next up, Zarayi pulled off a world-class save to tip Sagbo’s flick onto the bar, with Mawas unable to convert the follow-up.

With the away side in the ascendency, it was Al Arabi that nearly secured an unlikely victory in injury time as Kwame Karikari found himself in on goal, but his drive was brilliantly saved by Baba Malick.

This was not the result either side wanted, but the 10 men of Al Arabi will take heart from having restricted one of the top teams in the QNB Stars League for the whole match.
