QNB Stars League Week 16 — Friday Preview

The QNB Stars League Week 16 fixtures on Friday are Al Sailiya vs Qatar SC (Al Ahli Stadium, 16:40) and Al Khor vs Umm Salal (Al Khor Stadium, 18:50).

Al Sailiya vs Qatar SC

Al Sailiya would look to put behind the disappointment of having dropped points following their 2-2 draw with Al Kharaitiyat in the last round.

The Peregrines are fourth with 24 points, but Umm Salal are close behind, so Sami Trabelsi’s team cannot afford to lose more points if they are to finish in the top four.

Wagner Ribeiro and Temurkhuja Abdukholiqov are their main men. Midfielder Wagner is joint fourth in the QNB Stars League top scorers’ list on 11 goals, a feat he shares with Al Rayyan’s Rodrigo Tabata. Al Duhail’s Youssef El Arabi (20), Youssef Msakny (14) and Al Rayyan’s Abderrazaq Hamdallah (12) are the top trio.

Qatar SC, 10th with 12 points, are an improved lot under Qatari coach Abdullah Mubarak. They had lost to Al Sadd 1-3 last week after taking an early lead.

The Kings, who strengthened the side in January with strikers Patrick fabiano and Osama Omari, and midfielder Luis Jimenez, are still facing relegation and  should be looking to collect as many points as possible.

Fabiano is a doubtful starter for this match also as he has yet to fully recover from his injury.

Al Sailiya had won 5-1 in the first phase.

Al Khor vs Umm Salal

Umm Salal, fifth with 21 points, were held goalless by Al Arabi last week and that cost Egyptian coach Mahmoud Jaber his job. His replacement, Moroccan Talal El Karkouri, immediately got down to business by readying the players for their match against Al Khor.

El Karkouri knows most of the players, having been a player and assistant coach of Umm Salal and that should stand him in good stead.

The Orange Fortress benefited from the January transfer window by way of Tunisian attacking midfielder Oussama Darragi and Yemeni player Mohamed Barrois.

Then they have Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo and Syrian midfielder Mahmoud Al Mawas.

Al Khor, eighth on 14 points, had put up a spirited fight before going down 1-2 to Al Gharafa last week. The Knights are also in the danger zone.

Al Khor, with Brazilian Madson leading the charge, are sure to be tough opponents, especially while playing at home.

Umm Salal had won 1-0 in the first phase.
