QNB Stars League Week 20 — Al Kharaitiyat 0 Al Duhail 5

Al Duhail 2017-18 QNB Stars League champions

Al Duhail delivered a stunning 5-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat in Week 20 at the Al Khor Stadium on Friday to emerge as the 2017-18 season’s QNB Stars League champions.

The away side put on an enthralling performance that was befitting the occasion in which they swept away Al Kharaitiyat in the same way they have seen off others throughout the season.

The goals were scored by Mohammed Moosa, Ismail Mohammed and Yousef El Arabi in the 25th, 36th and 56th minute respectively. Youssef Msakni added to the score in the 82nd and 84th minutes.

With Al Sadd losing away at Umm Salal, Al Duhail knew a victory would be enough to see them over the line. They encountered an initially-stubborn Al Kharaitiyat who managed to restrict them to very little for the first quarter of the game.

However, all that changed when Al Duhail won a free-kick on the left wing. Captain Nam Tae-Hee’s perfectly-dispatched cross evaded the defence and was met by Moosa at the back post who tapped in on the volley.

From then on, it turned into a masterclass in attacking play, with Almoez Ali among the key protagonists. The young winger was involved in multiple opportunities and his persistence was rewarded as his superb cross found Ismail, who headed home with ease.

After the break, Al Kharaitiyat did briefly threaten a comeback with Rachid Tiberkanine going close, but any hope was short-lived as Al Duhail made it 3-0 not long after.

Almoez went on another mazy run down the left before cutting back for El Arabi to side-foot home for his 24th goal of the season.

Al Duhail were clearly in party mood and were able to further extend their lead, courtesy of Msakni's quickfire double as the game drew to a close.

His first came after an intricate passing move within the box, while his second of the night was again supplied by Almoez.

It was an outstanding climax to an outstanding season for The Red Knights who will now look to continue with maximum points in their remaining games.

Al Kharaitiyat, however, will have to regroup quickly if they are to have any chance of fighting off relegation.
