QNB Stars League Week 9 Match Report — Al Khor 1 Al Sailiya 0
Hosts Al Khor rode on a late strike by defender Soroush Hossein to edge past a resolute Al Sailiya in Week 9 of the QNB Stars League on Friday.
Hossein struck the only goal in the 84th minute. It was Al Khor’s third win of the season and their second in a row. For Al Sailiya, it was their first loss in the last four matches.
Al Sailiya managed to earn a couple of corners in the first 10 minutes, but hosts Al Khor, despite facing repeated attacks, held firm to keep the visitors in check.
In the first 20 minutes, Al Sailiya impressed with 62 per cent of ball possession as the hosts remained under constant threat from the visitors.
In the 34th minute, unmarked Temurkhuja Abdukholiqov missed the easiest of headers from just a few feet away from the Al Khor goal following a cross by Salem Al Ali. The Uzbek forward amateurishly misjudged the flight of the ball and went underneath the shot for the deflection that did not take place.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Helal Mohammed of Al Khor charged into the rival box, but his shot from close was blocked by goalkeeper Abdarrahman Aziz.
Al Khor’s Reza Najafi failed to connect an indirect free-kick from outside the Al Sailiya box in the 78th minute and the game headed for a draw.
It was then that Hossein, following a short cross, fired home as Al Khor celebrated the late strike in style.
