QSL Cup — Second Semifinal Preview
The QSL Cup’s second semifinal between Al Rayyan and Al Kharaitiyat will be played at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday, 16th December. The kick-off is at 18:30.
If Danish great Michael Laudrup-coached Al Rayyan extend their good run to the match, then Tunisian Ahmad Al Ajlani’s Al Kharaitiyat may find themselves at the receiving end.
Al Rayyan were the first to make it to the knockout stage of QSL Cup, also with an unbeaten record. They are third in the QNB Stars League standings with 25 points, behind Al Duhail and A Sadd in that order, even though they suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Al Ahli in the last week of first phase and were held by Umm Salal in the previous round.
Ace Moroccan striker Abderrazaq Hamdallah is a doubtful starter with a thigh muscle injury, but attacking midfielders Rodrigo Tabata as well as Mohsine Moutaouali and spearhead Sebastian Soria can prove a deadly combination for Al Rayyan.
Hamdallah suffered the injury during their Week 10 game against Umm Salal.
Al Rayyan also have Ahmed Al Saadi, Sultan Al Kuwari and Ziad Ali in the injury list.
On the other hand, Al Kharaitiyat are a lowly 10th in the league table, having struggled with inconsistent performances. Their main hopes are carried by Moroccan striker Rachid Tiberkanine. Sanjar Tursunov, Josue Mohy and Anwar Diba are very much able to play the supporting roles.
Goalkeepers Omar Barry of Al Rayyan and Ahmed Sofiyan of Al Kharaitiyat are experienced hands and that could add some spice to the contest.
Al Rayyan were held goalless by Al Arabi, while Al Kharaitiyat prevailed 6-1 over Qatar SC in the last round.
The winners will face Al Gharafa or Umm Salal, who will face each other in the first semifinal the same day, in the title clash at the Qatar SC Stadium on Tuesday, 19th December.
